Advantix vs Advantage - Expert's OpinionsK9 AdvantixFor the topical prevention and treatment of fleas, mosquitoes and ticks including deer ticks (the major carrier of Lyme disease), American dog ticks, Brown dog ticks and lone star ticks. K9 Advantix kills and repels fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. What makes K9 Advantix so different is it has permethrin in it. Permethrin will kill and repel just about anything. (It's the same chemical they use to fog dog kennels and horse barns to kill fleas, ticks, flies and practically everything else.) However, we live in an area where ticks are problem, and our dogs have actually had a couple of ticks (either attached or embedded under their skin) while on this product. It does appear that the ticks were shriveled up and dead by the time we spotted them.
AdvantageStops fleas from biting in three to five minutes, and starts killing fleas withing an hour. Within 12 hours of initial application, 98-100% of all existing fleas on pets are dead.
I used Advantage on my dogs for a short time, but it didn't make sense not to protect them against ticks and mosquitoes as well, so I switched to K9 Advantix instead. If money is an issue, and/or you've only got a really bad flea problem that you're trying to combat fast, then you might want to try Advantage first. Advantage vs Advantix - Customers' FeedbackI've been using Advantage forever and have had great success with it. I have seen commercials for Advantix. I am assuming it is made by the same company. Had anyone tried it? Do you like it? We've tried Advantix when we had a pop up of tiny little ticks and it seemed to work fine. We only use it now if we see ticks - since we don't have much of a problem with them in our area/neighborhood. Fleas are another story, so we use Advantage monthly! Before I jump into using Advantrix, I think I would rather wait and see how well it does over the long term. I'd hate to find out that after using it, the dogs get some weird cancer. If you are having good results from using Advantage, why change? I use Advantix. It was recommended by both my breeder and my vet group. I don't use it year-round. We've had a couple freezes here now so I won't be giving it to Rocco again til the Spring. I use Advantix. I used to use Advantage, but it turned my black's fur silver. It went away, but the vet and the maker (Bayer) could not tell me why. I was really leary because he has allergies and I was wondering if the Advantage was mixing with his serum. My 2 yellows, had no issues. My vet suggested K-9 Advantix because it did more. Fleas, ticks, mosquitos, flies. I haven't had a issue with it on my blacks fur. I've only had 1 tick on 1 dog and it was dead. We train in some grassy, wet and wooden areas where fleas, ticks and mosquitos love to go. I have used both Advantix and Frontline on Libby. She does just fine with both, and Frontline is also supposed to work for mosquitos, though I don't believe they advertise that. Frontline tends to be a bit more water-repellent, in my experience, when you take your pups swimming a lot, though Bayer (makes Advantix) would probably disagree. Advantage only works for fleas, so it doesn't work well with my desire to go hiking in the woods where ticks tend to be. I use that for my indoor kitties...it is really safe. If you have cats, you don't want Advantix. IMO, K9 Advantix is a superior product, BUT, we still usually buy the Frontline Plus. A very knowledgeable person on my Scottie list strongly suggested sticking with the Advantage and NOT going to Advantix when she posted to the list when someone asked. I don't recall what she said other than that but I think I saved the post if you want me to look it up...
